Dear Resident

RE: A46 Stoneleigh Junction Improvement Scheme

Existing Bridge Closure – Stoneleigh Road Closure between A46 slip roads required until Sunday 17 December 2023

This letter is to inform you that on safety grounds we need to extend the current road closure on Stoneleigh Road until 17 December 2023. Stoneleigh Road will be closed between the two A46 slip roads, to allow the continued safe installation of a new parapet as part of the bridge improvement works. The closure will remain in place until the works are complete with the official diversion route clearly sign posted. We will do all we can to reopen the road before this before this date.

We apologise for the ongoing road closure, and inconvenience and disruption caused, we are working on completing the works as quickly as possible.

Since the last update progress has been made with most of the new fixings and posts being installed, to allow the new parapet to be erected. The remaining fixings are more complicated and are requiring more work to allow installation. This is because, due to the age of the structure, we have been having difficulties in retrofitting a new parapet fixings to the old structure and this has meant more extensive works to fit to the structure. A survey was carried out prior to works commencing, but the issues we are now dealing with were only apparent once the old parapet was removed and works started.

The works and testing have been through an iterative process and these are continuing but taking longer than anticipated. This, along with colder weather setting in, have delayed the works further. However, we do now have a solution for installing all the permanent works. In the interim, s there is currently no parapet in place the bridge is not safe yet to be opened.

Once again, we thank you for your patience whilst this closure is in place, we will ensure the road is opened as soon as possible.

An update from the A46 Stoneleigh Junction Improvement Team

Throughout spring and summer, we have made good progress on the local road network elements of the scheme. Dalehouse Lane and Stoneleigh Road are on their new alignment, along with the opening of the new bridge over Finham Brook. Work on and around the A46 has been slower due to various issues. The most recent issue is in relation to the supply of the backfill material to the new A46 bridge. As suitable source and quantity of material could not be obtained at this time, this has affected other projects nationally. A solution is now in place for all these issues, but they have impacted the programme. We have worked as quickly as possible to resolve these issues but have taken time to ensure they are suitable and are approved by relevant authorities.

Due to these delays, work is now scheduled to be completed in Winter 2023/24.

We apologise for these delays and thank you for your continued patience while work is finished.

Further updates on programme and progress will be issued on our webpage https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/a46stoneleighjunction
